Trilla Suduri is the character they wanted us to think Kylo Ren was. Broken, tortured soul turned cruel as a form of self-preservation. Villain, but broken, not born. Not some petulant child throwing tantrums. And all throughout the story you get these glimpses, this look in her eyes, this is not who she is, this is who he made her to be.
One of the metanarrative interpretations of Birds of Prey is that women can be made to feel safe from other women’s support and protection rather than a male savior complex and I’m still thinking about that over twelve hours after seeing the movie.
That, and Huntress’s desire to protect the young girl from witnessing similar trauma to her own being one of the few moments of softness we see from her character.
